Bahia Honda is the one Keys park whose operator sells it on the scenery. Florida State Parks describes the park as iconic Florida Keys scenery, with palm-lined sandy beaches, gin-clear waters and sunsets, known for wading and shorebird observation. It is also a park that can turn you away at the gate on a busy day. This page covers the hours, the fee, the capacity rule and what the park concession offers, read from Florida State Parks on October 24, 2026, with the hours and fees rechecked on November 1, 2026.

The park is at 36850 Overseas Highway, Big Pine Key, and its phone is 305-872-2353. The operator pages we read did not give a mile marker for the park, so we do not quote one. This page stays park-scoped: hours, fees, the capacity rule, rentals and boating.

The park recommends arriving early on weekends and holidays. If you are driving down from Marathon or up from Key West on a Saturday, the morning is your window.
The same notice warns that shade is limited on the sandy beaches. Bring an umbrella or plan to rent one.

Which beach in the park?
Older guides name individual beaches inside Bahia Honda. The Florida State Parks page we checked on October 24, 2026 describes the park’s sandy beaches without naming each one, so we do not name them either. Ask the park (305-872-2353) which areas are open on the day you plan to go.
- Not confirmed: Bahia Honda's park page describes its sandy beaches without naming each one; ask the park (305-872-2353) which is open on the day.
Safety and dogs
The Florida State Parks pages we read for Bahia Honda posted no lifeguards, and none of the operators in this guide posts lifeguards at any Keys beach. Swim at your own risk. The pages also did not post a dog rule for the beaches when we checked on October 24, 2026, so call the park before bringing one.
- Not confirmed: None of the beach operators we checked posts lifeguards; swim at your own risk and confirm with the operator.
Planning around Bahia Honda
A simple plan for a weekend visit: check the park page the night before, leave early enough to reach the gate in the morning, and pack water, shade and snacks in case the concession line is long. The closest other operator-confirmed beaches are in Marathon to the north and Key West to the south. If Bahia Honda is full when you arrive, those are the realistic backups. The beach finder filters every confirmed beach by island, fee, dogs and facilities.
